Events Past

'An Evening on the Bay' 2009 was held in August 2009. Approximately 30 of the registered children had their Art work displayed and these were available for purchase over the course of the evening. Thanks to kind donations from local framers, each piece of work looked amazing. The majority of the pieces were sold (there are three pieces on display in the old Sports Injury Clinic building at $100 each if anyone is interested in purchasing). We also had a Tanzanian market place selling items from the markets near Kawe ranging from recycled paper bead necklaces, Tanzanian coffee beans and soap stone coaster sets. There were plenty of silent Auction items and once again our main auction was done with the assistance of Michael and Geoff Crowder. Guests were entertained with Blackwater Riff and Jenny Patrone's Surge Dance Group. The evening raised $10,000 dollars. This money will not only fund the transport of a container load of Aid to Kawe but will also assist with developing our Watoto Kwanza Centre.

'An Evening on the Bay' was held in June 2008 at the Frankston Yacht Club, Victoria, Australia. We were donated many amazing items that were either auctioned off by Michael Crowder or in the silent auction. From boxing classes, signed cricket bats, chocolate hampers, mobile phones, a vacuum, a golf package and much much more. The night attracted over 100 guests and raised $7,500 dollars.

How was this spent? $2000 was donated straight to Children First Foundation to assist with the medical cases coming from Kawe in 2009. The remainder was used to kick off the work of the KWANZA WATOTO Project. Since then $3,200 has gone straight through to getting our orphans into schools, $1000 has gone towards the medical processing costs of our three-medical cases, $400 has gone towards the beginnings of resourcing our library, the remainder has been used in assisting Tatu with her re-settlement, assisting young Gerard (since found a sponsor), purchase of a digital camera for registration and putting together a registration package and folder, postage and purchase of nappies and phone calls to our Tanzanian team.
